COMPREHENSIVE ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSE, COMPENSATION, AND LIABILITY ACT (CERCLA, OR SUPERFUND)

  • This act provides federal funds to help restore land abundant of abandoned or out of control harzardous waste.
  • This harzadous waste sites include spills, accidents, and other ways of releasing pollution into the environment.
  • After the establishment of the CERCLA, the EPA was then able to find the organizations or people responsible for the pollutants and then assure there accomadations in cleaning up.
  • If the organizations cannot be located, the EPA cleans up the pollution sites.
  • In 1986, the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) reassigned the authority of cleaning up the activities around the United States back to the CERCLA.
